When the ripples
from
“Summer Splash 2010:
The National Junior
Maine-Anjou Show”
had settled, it was
clear that Arkansas
Junior Maine-Anjou
Association members
traveled to Spencer,
Iowa, June 19-25,
2010, to create a
tidal wave of
excitement.
Excitement for Team
Arkansas began to
build early in the
week when Mason
Walker of Prairie
Grove won Grand
Champion Mainetainer
Heifer honors in the
prestigious “She’s A
Lady” Futurity.
Olivia Foster of
Green Forest
finished 4th in
Class 9 of purebred
futurity heifers.
The National Junior
Show kicked off with
Carlee Clark of
Romance staking
claim to Grand
Champion Prospect
Steer as well as
Champion Bred &
Owned Prospect
Steer. Holly Loyd of
Centerton placed
second in Class 2B
of owned steers. |

During the
National
Junior
Mainetainer
Show, Cory
Ruff of
Perryville
finished 3rd
in Class 4,
Holly Rush
of Lincoln
placed 9th
in Class 8E,
and Bobby
Jones of
Oden placed
4th in Class
10. Chancee
Clark of
Romance
placed 3rd
in Class 10
of owned
heifers and
1st in Class
10 of bred &
owned
heifers.
Clark’s
heifer was
also
selected as
the Senior
Yearling
Bred & Owned
Division
Champion.
Mason Walker
capped off
the
Mainetainer
show by
exhibiting
his heifer
to the
Reserve
Division
Champion
Summer
Heifer title
before she
was slapped
by judge
Steve Reimer
as the
Reserve
Grand
Champion
Mainetainer
Heifer of
the 2010
National
Maine-Anjou
Heifer Show.
In the owned
purebred
division of
the show,
Kristin Hill
of Oden
placed 2nd
in Class 23
and Olivia
Foster
finished 4th
in Class
24D.
At the 2010
awards
banquet,
Arkansas
juniors
continued to
cause waves
by taking
home
numerous top
honors from
the
satellite
contests
held during
the week.
In the
junior
division,
Mason Walker
was selected
as Reserve
National
Champion in
Showmanship.
Walker
teamed up
with Cody
Green of
Arkansas,
and Kiley
Elder and
Cade Van
Vliet of
Iowa to earn
third in the
Cattleman’s
Challenge
contest.
Walker and
his
teammates,
Danielle
Funk of
Missouri and
Addison
Thompson of
Indiana,
finished in
7th place in
team
fitting.
In the
intermediate
division,
Audrey
Foster of
Green Forest
earned 8th
place in
Photography
and 9th
place in the
Poster
Contest.
Olivia
Foster took
3rd place in
the Senior
Poster
Contest.
Corey Green
of Des Arc,
a current
national
junior board
member, was
elected
vice-president
of the
American
Junior
Maine-Anjou
Association.
Green also
finished 4th
in Senior
Photography
and teamed
up with
Leighton
Robbins of
Texas, and
Myles and
Jace
Stagemeyer
of Nebraska
to take 7th
place in the
Cattleman’s
Challenge.
Cody Green
of Des Arc,
a former
AJMAA
vice-president
and retiring
national
junior board
member,
punctuated
his show
career by
claiming
National
Champion
honors in
Senior
Showmanship.
Green,
Walker,
Elder, and
Van Vliet
claimed 3rd
place in the
Cattleman’s
Challenge,
and Green,
Laurie Reed
of Colorado,
and Matt
David of
Louisiana
finished in
8th place in
Team
Fitting.
Green’s
showmanship
win, along
with 1st
place
finishes in
Photography
and
Salesmanship,
2nd in
Public
Speaking,
and 4th in
the Poster
Contest
catapulted
him to the
honor of
Senior
Overall High
Point
Individual
in the
Sweepstakes
competition.
The weather
was cool,
the
competition
was hot, and
the Arkansas
Junior
Maine-Anjou
Association
surfed out
of Iowa on a
wave of
enthusiasm! |
